3SSB Rules

These rules are designed to ensure fair play and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. All participants are expected to adhere to these rules and the decisions of the referees.

General Tournament Information

2025 – 2026 National High School Federation rules will be followed with the few exceptions/clarifications listed below.

  1. All games will be played in two (2) sixteen (16) minute stop clock halves
  2. There will be up to a five (5) minute warm-up period between games. There will be three (3) minute halftime.
  3. Each player will be allowed a total of six (6) fouls before being disqualified
  4. Free Throws: 1 & 1 at 7th Foul; Double Bonus at 10th Foul
  5. High School 3-Point line will be used in all games, on all courts
  6. Running Clock Rule: If a team is ahead by 20 points or more in the 2nd half with eight (8) minutes remaining, there will be a running clock. If the team gets the deficit back to ten (10) or less, it will be a stop clock again.
  7. Overtime Rules: The first overtime will be two (2) minutes with a stop clock.
    • All subsequent overtimes will be one (1) minute only.
    • Each team will be given a full sixty (60) second time-out in each overtime period.
    • No time-outs will carry over from the previous period(s).
    • Player fouls and team fouls carry over into overtime play
  8. Shot Clock: There will be a thirty (30) second shot clock used in all games. No five (5) sec. closely guarded while dribbling. Shot clock resets to twenty (20) sec.
  9. Time Outs: 1 Full / 1 30 second time-out per half – your 30 sec. time-out will carry over to the 2nd Half, but your full time-out will NOT.
  10. Advancing the Ball:
    • On a made basket by “Team A” and under (one) 1 minute in the 2nd half, “Team B” can call a timeout to advance the ball into their front court. The throw-in spot will be on either side of the floor at the 28 foot mark.
    • Under a minute, if “Team A” takes a shot and misses and “Team B” gets the rebound; “Team B” is allowed to call a timeout in order to advance the ball into their front court.
  11. No game will begin before the time listed on the official game schedule. Game time is forfeit time.
  12. Players will be allowed to play for one team only. Once a player plays in a game for one team, they will no longer be eligible to participate for any other team in the tournament.
  13. The home team is the bottom team in the app and on the game schedule on the website, and will wear light-colored jerseys, and sit to the left of the scorers’ table. The away team is the top team (1st team listed) in the app and on the game schedule on the website, and will wear dark-colored jerseys, and sit to the right of the scorers’ table.
  14. Fights/Ejections: 1st Offense – coach/player removed to stands for the remainder of the game and will NOT be eligible to participate in the next game.
    • Coach/player can be removed from the remainder of the series at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
    • All suspensions are at the discretion of and must be confirmed by the Tournament Director.
  15. All Teams: Coaches must verify their team roster on the stats platform with the score table staff before each game – no exceptions.
    • Starters must check in at the score table prior to tip-off.
    • If a player checks into a game who is not listed on the official digital roster, it will result in a Double Technical Foul. The opposing team will be awarded four (4) free throws to start the game.
  16. There will be an athletic trainer on site.
  17. Each team is responsible for bringing basketballs for warm-up.

Eligibility Rules

Players are eligible to participate in the grade level they are enrolled in for the current (2025 – 2026) school year so long as they meet the age eligibility rules:

  • 15U/9th Grade: Players enrolled in 9th grade to begin the 2025 – 2026 school year
  • 16U/10th Grade: Players enrolled in 10th grade to begin the 2025 – 2026 school year
  • 17U/11th Grade: Players enrolled in 11th grade to begin the 2025 – 2026 school year
  • 17U Teams may have a maximum of two (2) unsigned seniors (enrolled in 12th grade to begin the 2025 – 2026 school year)
  • All teams must meet NCAA Requirements. All players and staff must be entered in BBCS rosters by the advertised deadline.
    • All necessary paperwork should be entered on the BBCS prior to each dead period and certified event.
    • 3SSB staff reserves the right to determine a player ineligible if the NCAA has not made a ruling at the time of the event.
    • Teams are required to wear adidas uniforms and shoes during all game
