Session II: Girls 3SSB Regular Season Recap

BRYAN, Texas – The second session of the adidas Girls 3SSB circuit saw the conclusion of the regular season and teams battling for seeding in this summer’s Palmetto Road Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

STAR WARS

To say the matchups this spring were epic on the adidas 3SSB Circuit is an understatement.  It started during the opening day of the season with the epic matchup between 7 Days, led by Kaleena Smith of Perris, California, and Southeast All Stars, lead by Kate Harpring of Atlanta, Georgia.  The star-studded matchups continues in Bryan with both of those programs facing off with another powerhouse, Northwest Greyhounds, led by Oliviyah Edwards of Tacoma, Washington.

The three teams are among the favorites to win 17U and they have split evenly against each other during the regular season with 7 days getting a win over Southeast All Stars but losing to NW Greyhounds while SAS got a big win during Session 2 over Greyhounds.

Edwards play in the showdown with 7 Days during Session II was an incredible display of carrying her team through the pressure that comes with it.  The Greyhounds team needed all of her 29 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks to snatch a 68-62 victory.  Edwards has been good all season in marquee matchups which stared with her 23 points and 7 rebounds against United Family’s huge frontline that featured Lauren Hassell and Marly Spiers, both from Clarksville, Tennessee.

NEWCOMERS

Gigi Battle of Central Florida Elite U17 3SSB.

Gigi Battle of Edison, New Jersey, had an electric spring for Central Florida Elite.  She’s a big reason CFE won its pool in league play and is poised for a run this summer in Rock Hill for the adidas 3SSB 17U Championships.  In a defining win against Elevate Elite during Session II in Bryan, Texas, Battle went for 21 points and 8 rebounds.  She averaged 15.8 points per game during Session II and is firmly in the hunt for “Newcomer Of The Year”.

Danyella Mporokoso of Naperville, Illinois, has been leading the charge for M14Hoops this spring.  In a game that clinched her team a spot in the Championship Division this summer, she went off for 24 points and 6 rebounds in a seven-point win over Team NorCal in Session II.  She’s averaging more than 18 points per season in the regular season and will head into summer fifth in 17U in scoring.

Nation Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada, has been on the national radar for the past two summers and her play during the 3SSB regular season galvanized her position among the best in 2027.  Her 19.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game helped power Utah Lady Prospects to a 4-1 pool record, taking a 2-seed into the Championships.  She tallied two double-doubles during Session II including a 22-point, 11-rebound performance to cap off the stop in Bryan.

Avery Arije of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, has put the continent on notice she can play with anyone.  She’s currently tied for third in scoring in the 16U division for a Sol United team that will head to Rock Hill as favorites to win the championship.  This spring she has six games with 19 or more points with her season high of 26 coming in a big win against Upward Stars.  Her team’s lone loss was a cross-pool game against Southwest Select in Bryan.

Ella Watts of Madison, Alabama, is just a 2028, and is inching towards a top 10 finish in scoring for the 16U Division.  She’s been in double-figures seven times for Southeast All Stars.  She’s shooting the three well, converting 21 of her 53 attempts from long range for just under 40 percent.

3SSB RISERS

Always 100 guard Gabby Helsom of Fort Wayne, Indiana, hit 18 threes during her four-game run during Session 2. Her aggressive play lit a fire for her team who went a perfect 4-0 in Bryan, earning a 2-seed in July’s championships.

Strawberry Blankumsee of Cincinnati, Ohio, was one of the top players in the 15U division last summer.  She exploded for 32 points in the opening game of Session 2 in Bryan. Her production is impressive considering she’s in the class of 2028 and has Next Level eyeing a run in Rock Hill.

Always 100 15U finished the regular season undefeated and are now one of the favorites to take the title in Rock Hill in July.  A big reason is the play of 2028 guard Janaya Cooper of Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She exploded for 25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists in a big win over Team Elite.

Chloe Jenkins of La Puente, California, levelled up her game for Hoop Code 15U in Byran.  She averaged 16.8 points and 5.5 rebounds during Session 2 and her game is in the conversation as one of the most dynamic in the 2029 guard class to date.

Journey Atkins of Bronx, New York, is putting up solid numbers for the Gauchos but if you really watch her impact it comes from how disruptive she is on the defensive end.  Her willingness to take on the tough assignments fuels the pace the Gauchos thrive in.

ROAD TO ROCK HILL – CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

17U Rundown

Superstar Conference Pool B had the most drama with four teams tied in pool play at 3-2 – CFE, Elevate Elite, MW Next Level and Minnesota Stars – proving to be the most competitive pool of the regular season.  What’s more, the At-Large qualifier from the Superstar Conference, Mass Rivals, also came from Pool B, meaning five of the six teams qualified for the Championship Division for the Girls Palmetto Road Championships.

Pool A of Superstar saw both Southwest Select and Utah Prospects finish 4-1 with Select taking the 1 seed after winning the head-to-head matchup.  Things got a little tricky for Southwest Select with an opening day loss in Bryan but a 17-point 9-rebound performance from Eve Long of Olathe, Kansas, and a 19-point explosion from Rihyana Kinsey of Waco, Texas, including five threes, secured the win against M14Hoops and the top spot in Pool A.

The Rivalry Conference saw both pool winners run the table with both 7 Days and Southeast All Stars finishing undefeated in pool play.  Both took a loss in cross-pool action, setting the table for an unpredictable finish this summer.

Ashley Uusitalo of NW Greyhounds 17U 3SSB.

It’s hard to think of a 6-2 team as a dark horse but NW Greyhounds are a team that the top seeds don’t want to see on their side of the bracket.  The team has one of the toughest players to match up with in Edwards whose unique combination of size, strength and skill require a complete team defensive effort to limit her.  The Greyhounds also have good guard depth with Portland commit Sara Mangan of Beaverton, Oregon, being a long-range threat and Ashley Uusitalo of Redmond, Washington, capable of scoring in waves.

Another team not to overlook is Always 100.  The squad dropped two games during Session I with Louisville commit Myah Epps of Fort Wayne, Indiana, limited by injury.  With a healthy Epps and a red hot Helsom the team went 4-0 in Bryan.  The x-factor is Kamrah Banks of Indianapolis, Indiana.  When she’s scoring efficiently the team has a three-headed scoring machine that should be a tough out.

Myah Epps of Always 100 17U 3SSB.

Central Florida Elite had some big wins in regular season play with Battle, Ashley Knox of Thonotosassa, Florida, on the perimeter, and Terrell McCoy of Jacksonville, Florida, roaming the paint.

The Forum qualifier, JP Fam Hoops, ran the table in their Conference.  Ogechi Okeke of Missouri City, Texas, is a 6-4 forward that you have to account for with multiple bodies.  She’s a double-double threat every time she steps on the court.

There are plenty of other programs that could catch fire and make a deep run like United Family, MW Next Level, Elevate Elite, Utah Prospects and Minnesota Stars, the defending 15U and 16U 3SSB Champions.  The path to the 2025 title is poised to be a bar-raising affair.

16U Rundown

We might have had a preview of the championship game during Session II when Southwest Select, the winner of the Superstar Pool A, played Sol United, the winner of Forum Pool F, in an exhibition.  The one-possession game was one of the best of the second session.

Sol United 16U, based out of Ontario, Canada, has all the pieces with savvy guard play from prospects with good size and two posts standing 6-6 and 6-5, respectively.

Utah Lady Prospects is another team to keep an eye on.  Post play can be the great equalizer and Sutton Villa of Vineyard, Utah, is a 2028 making a name for herself this spring.  Pair her with strong guard play from Ava Chang and you’ve got a 1-2 punch ready for Rock Hill

ETG is another program to watch in the 16U championships, led by 5-11 guard Tniyah Wilson Smith of Omaha, Nebraska.  She’s top five in scoring and has only been held to single figures once.

Hoop Code is a team that is was perfect in Forum pool play.  They took two losses in cross-pool action but with 16U scoring leader Lily McCracken in the mix, Hoop Code will have as good a shot as anyone.

15U Rundown

Hoop Code’s 15U team is the only one in 3SSB to have two of the top three scorers in the league at their age group with top scorer (tied) Kolbi Brooks of Phoenix, Arizona, and No. 3 Jaiyana Bogan-Jacobs of Gilbert, Arizona, averaging 19.9 and 17.8 points per game, respectively.  Their high-pressure defensive style has them as a favorite.

Hoop Code will have plenty of competition to get to the finish line. Always 100 led by Cooper had a similarly dominant spring regular season, as did Utah Prospects, led by guard Hannah Waite of Bunkerville, Nevada.

Next Level has a dynamic guard trio – Kylie Smith of Alexandria, Kentucky, Noelle Price of Independence, Kentucky, and Maren Orme of Fort Thomas, Kentucky.  Smith averaged 13 points per game while doing so with a Points Per Shot ratio of 1.01 and shooting 36-percent behind the arc.

Speaking of efficient scorers, Saniah Jones of Lees Summit, Missouri, had an incredible spring for Della Lamb.  She is a force on the offensive glass and with her back to the basket.
